The reunion web site was born out of many discussions among the
reunion committee members. We reviewed
several other reunion web sites, spoke with many other class reunion
committee members (e.g. those who have walked this path before we
did), and brainstormed our own ideas. Hopefully what
we have put together will be of some value to you, our fellow
classmates. We have had fun putting it together, and we hope you
have fun using it.
Technical Information
The Skyline '87 Reunion web site is primarily built on and powered by
open source software. The server hosting the site is running
FreeBSD and the web content
is served up by Apache.
The main functional elements of the site - the blog, the bulletin
board forums, and the photo gallery - are powered respectively by
blosxom (now deprecated),
phpBB, and
Coppermine.
Blosxom requires
100%-pure standard issue Perl.
phpBB and Coppermine both depend on
PHP and
MySQL.
There is some custom software written for the web site; including the
Alumni Address Book app, the RSVP app, the "My Life" app, and several
others. These apps were all written in
Perl by
Rus Berrett.
Source code is available upon your polite request.
Hosting Space / Domain Registration
The web hosting space is being contributed by
Dave Barnes.
Dave also facilitated (and paid for) the domain name
registrations (both skyline87.org and skyline87.com).
