The first round is on me...
I wanted to make sure your summer plans include our 20 YEAR SKYLINE HIGH REUNION - our reunion events are now just 6 weeks away! There are two nights of fun-loving activities planned for your enjoyment. I have included the official description below as well as some supplemental "off the record" activities.

    FUN-LOVING ACTIVITY #1
July 27, 2007 Friday night....... gathering on the hallowed grounds of the "Skyline Court Yard" for an alumni-only mixer. Come catch-up with old friends and share your last 20 years of life with each other.

As dusk turns into night we will venture to Fiddler's Elbow to enjoy un-adulterated libations and bull-shitting late into the night. The first round is on me.

    FUN-LOVING ACTIVITY #2
July 28, 2007 Saturday night.......... party, dance, and dine with your significant other and fellow E-A-G-L-E-S at Snowbird Center, Rendezvous Room. When driving to Snowbird, take "Snowbird Entry 2" to arrive at the Snowbird Center.

If you want to take the PARTY to the NEXT LEVEL then stay late into the night and linger with us by the bar (or pool) at the Cliff Lodge. I recommend you get a room at the Cliff Lodge so you won't need to worry about driving home after midnight. (By the way, when booking a room at Snowbird tell them you are with Skyline High 1987 reunion and your room should be only $99.00.)

HERE's what you need to do......Put your FEAR aside, and RSVP for the event _or_ tell me you CAN'T make it (and why). While here at the website check out all of the other features; THE WEBSITE IS FOR WAY MORE THAN JUST REGISTERING! Share your photos, share your updates, get involved in our on-line community.

That is it from me, see you at the reunion.

Love,

Kevin Buchan & The Skyline HS Class of 1987 Reunion Committee

 RSVP Deadline Extended
In our recent mailing we mentioned that the deadline to RSVP for our reunion events would be July 20th (today). We based this date on a presumption as to when we needed to report a head count to Snowbird for the Saturday evening dinner. We have recently learned that a firm head count is not required until next Wednesday, July 25th. Therefore, we are extending the RSVP deadline until then.

So, you have 5 more days to RSVP... after that you will no longer be able to RSVP on-line, but only "in person" at the door for the inflated price of $75/person (instead of the $60/person now).

If you have already decided that you will or won't be able to attend, then please RSVP on-line as soon as possible. It will just take you a couple of minutes. In fact, there is more than enough time in between "Dr. Phil" and "Oprah" to RSVP your confirmation or regrets.

If you have not decided yet if you will attend, then can I be of any assistance? Help me... help you. Help me, help you. I'm happy to share with you the reasons why I RSVP'd and why I believe you would be remiss to pass on this wonderful opportunity to reconnect with your old friends. Just e-mail me back. Let's talk.

Regards,

Heidi (Coon) Wheatley & The Skyline HS Class of 1987 Reunion Committee

 Share your Indulgence
It is a fine Sunday morning to do some baking. This morning I have a loaf of banana bread in the oven. The kids (my 5-yr-old and my 3-yr-old) "helped" me as much as they could. I don't bake every Sunday morning, but I often do. It is one of the indulgences I enjoy when time permits.

From this esoteric revelation about my life, you can formulate some fairly certain assumptions about me. Namely, that I like to cook and that I enjoy spending time with my kids (and that I am want to use even the flimsiest of excuses to e-mail you about reunion business).

Now, I didn't list "Sunday morning baking with my kids" as the answer for my "Indulgence" on the "My Life" questionnaire I submitted, but perhaps I should have? Maybe I'll go back and change it. *shrug*

If you can take some time today and "indulge" me, please fill out an entry for our Reunion Journal. It is so easy (and kind of fun) to do, you'll wonder why you didn't do it sooner.

Thank you!

cheers.

We need your "My Life" document for our Reunion Journal
We are putting together that documents what everyone has been up to for the past 20 years. Our hope is to have enough entries to produce a book that will be available at the reunion for purchase (the price will simply cover the cost of production). We will probably also distribute the Journal on-line (but more details on that later). What we really need you to do now is take 10 minutes of your time and create your page in our Journal. You can do it all on-line... it's easy.

To get started, click here.

Follow the prompts; the step-by-step process will allow you to create your entry for our Journal. You will be given the option to attach a photo, but it is optional - your choice. After you complete your submission, you will immediately be able to review how it will look in print. And the best part is -- if you don't look/sound as cool as you'd like the first time around, you can do it again! And again. And again. As long as we have your final document by FRIDAY, JULY 20th. (Sorry we have to set a deadline sometime.)

As an example of what a submission looks like, check out the the "My Life" document that was submitted by our fearless leader and former senior class president, Dave Barnes. You can take a look at what he has done... sure, you haven't quite found the time to swim the English Channel, but I'm sure it's on your TO-DO list! ;)

You can also review the submissions made by others.

Whether you are or aren't coming to the reunion, we still need your submission! This Journal is a great way for everyone to participate and be represented, even those who can't make it to the reunion -- and we'd love to get as many submittals as possible in the next few days. If you run into a problem or if you have any question whatsoever, then please e-mail me or contact Rus Berrett. (Please refer to the Alumni Address Book for our contact information.)

Thank you to Gretchen (Soffe) Randle for coming up with the "My Life" concept and to Rus for creating the web application.

Hope all is well with you, your family, partner, pets, etc. Looking forward to seeing everyone at the Reunion on July 27-28. If I do not see you there, then HAGS!! (Have A Great Summer!!)

All the best,

Sue (Johnson) Winchester & The Skyline HS Class of 1987 Reunion Committee

BMX Bikes and Sunday Morning Bakery Goods
When I was growing up, I lived on a very average street... just like you no doubt. I could walk or ride my BMX to the homes of any number of my friends... Mark Shepard lived just around the corner; Tony Coombs lived very close, Richie Seamons (class of '88) lived the closest (if I cut through a yard... which I often did), Mark Erekson was a bit further (and uphill), and Dave Barnes. Before we had the luxury of a driver's license, the five of us (Mark, Mark, Tony, Dave, and myself) biked just about everywhere together. We would bike down to Cottonwood mall on more than one occasion, a distance of about, oh, I dunno, 5 or 6 miles and did so without helmets and without adult supervision. We would stop by the 7-11 on 45th for a snack either on the way there or the way back (or both). A lot of times we would just bike down to Gretchen's house and crash there... watch some TV, make some snacks, play kick the can, etc. We had some great times - the same group of us - hanging out together since elementary school.

As a parent now, I wonder sometimes if my kids will have the privilege that I did of having such a very close core group of friends throughout their childhood. It seems that we are much more mobile now... people in the neighborhood come and go, friendships are made but fade just as rapidly as the moving vans leave. We (speaking generally) are now much more protective of our kids too (for good or bad, you decide). Parents (around here anyway) would be loathe to let kids bike the distances that we did when we were young... BMXs are long gone, kids (again around here anyway) ride medium-sized mountain bikes, and helmets are now mandatory riding gear.

Times change.

I must confess that, in the past, I have been less than enthusiastic about this reunion. When Dave (Barnes) approached me with the idea that I throw a website together for the reunion in late October (or was it early November?), I put off doing anything about it until the middle of the following February. I was busy (which was true)... I had better things to do (which was also true)... but as I started getting involved, and pulling out the old memorabilia, and reconnecting with old friends, I have become much more excited. I put in calls to my old BMX buddies and chatted with them. I have kept up with Dave, but I hadn't seen nor heard from Mark, Mark, and Tony (and Richie) for years.

Tony RSVP'd first... and just yesterday Mark (Shepard) RSVP'd. It will be great to see them again and reconnect. Eh... Mark (Erekson) are you going to commit?! It won't be the same without you. Just show up to the Friday gig. You can't be too busy to stop by for a few hours. If you don't come, then well, you'll be missed... that's all. Your BMX sucked anyway. ;)

Ah, Sunday mornings... a great time for baking... and writing e-mail. I'm having some freshly baked biscuits with honey. You?

Cheers.

 Venue Change
The venue for our Saturday Night Reunion Event has been changed. Our reunion material previously mentioned that this event would be held in the Rendezvous Room at the Snowbird Center, but we have been upgraded to the Ballroom at the Cliff Lodge! The Cliff Lodge is located at Entry #4 at Snowbird (but you can also park at Entry #2 for a short walk).

There are quite a few people taking advantage of the $99/night rooms at the Cliff, so reserve your room now and make a weekend out of it. Your reserved room and the Saturday Night Reunion Event will now be located in the same building. The Snowbird Reservation Desk can be reached at 800-453-3000... be sure to mention you will be there for the Skyline Reunion to get the discounted rate.

July 27th, 6pm, Alumni-only event at Skyline High School Courtyard  (unchanged)
July 28th, 7pm, Formal Dinner event at Cliff Lodge Ballroom at Snowbird  (new location!)

 Get Over It
O.K. so you have procrastinated sending your RSVP. We got your message loud and clear....

You're not overly anxious to come to the 20-year reunion.

You are "so over" high school.

You have grown up and moved on.

Everyone you want to see, you see anyway.

    You are super busy.

America's Funniest Home Videos is on Saturday nights and you haven't missed an episode since 1991... the life-size Bob Saget cardboard cut-out (that you stand next to your TV) would never forgive you if you broke your streak.

You don't want to spend the money.

You have something "important" that same weekend.

Now please just GET OVER IT and RSVP. You know you are going to anyway, and doing it now will really help us plan accordingly. The reunion is less than ONE MONTH AWAY!

A TWENTY year reunion only happens once in a lifetime. Don't miss it.

Thanks and see you July 27 & 28th!!!
